Brexit Updates for EU Students

EU Student Advice on Brexit

On December 31st 2020 the UK formally left the European Union.

UK universities and SI-UK have always supported diversity, tolerance and internationalism and the UK remains one of the most welcoming destinations in the world for an EU student looking to gain a world class education.

All universities strongly believe that European and international students make a vital contribution to UK higher education and society as a whole.

Brexit FAQ

- Will EU students still pay the same tuition fees as home students?

A number of UK universities plan on offering fee reduction scholarships which will bring tuition fees into line with the fee paid by UK students for the duration of their course.

- Will EU students have to apply for a student visa?

If you arrived in the UK before 1st January 2021, you will not need a visa, but if you plan to stay in the UK longer than 1st January 2021, you’ll need to apply online for the free EU Settlement Scheme (see below).

If you arrived after 1st January 2021, you need to apply for a student visa if you are studying a course which is longer than six months in length. The UK Government Visa Checker will allow you to check which via you need to study in the UK.

If you’re 16 or 17 and want to study at an independent school in UK, you may be eligible for a Child Student visa instead.

- What is the EU Settlement Scheme?

The scheme processes the applications of European Union citizens currently living in the UK to allow them to remain in the UK after Brexit went live on 21st January.

- Can EU students stay and work in the UK after completion of their degree?

All international and EU students in the UK will be able to apply for the UK’s new Graduate VISA Route to stay in the UK for two years after their degree to work or look for work at any skill level.

Studying in the UK

Breckett Front  I believe my success is due to the great support provided by SI-UK. I was advised the right IELTS courses to attend and they also helped with my visa application. I really want to share with you my positive experience and I would definitely recommend SI-UK to my friends.  Breckett Back
